As is the case around the country, voter turnout has been higher than normal across Carlton County today.

In Cloquet, six polling places reported their voter numbers at around 1:30 p.m. At Cloquet Gospel Tabernacle, 800 people had voted. At Garfield, it was "difficult to find a parking spot," according to election judges. The voter tally was at 522. At Cloquet City Hall, about 600 people had voted with 165 new voters registering. Voting at Our Reedemer was described as "very busy" with 600 voters as well. One hundred twenty-five voters cast their ballots at Fond du Lac Head Start.

Scanlon reported 280 voters around 1 p.m., which adds up to more than half of registered voters, according to Sue Davis, Scanlon city clerk/treasurer.

With 192 voters in Carlton so far, the turnout was called "tremendous," by Carlton City Clerk C.J. VanGuilder.

In Barnum, 144 people had voted by 1:30 p.m., which was "a little more" than in previous years, Head Judge Chris Jurek said.
