Carlton County Deputy Tory Cawcutt and his K-9 partner, Roman, were doing their job canvassing an area near Big Lake Road near Cloquet March 8.

The duo were searching for Sheldon Thompson, a suspect in a triple murder investigation in Cloquet. They helped an arrest team track and apprehend Thompson in the woods near Mission Creek Road in Perch Lake Township.

For their work to apprehend Thompson, the pair was recognized with the U.S. Police Canine Association Region 12 “Patrol Case of the Quarter” recently.

Cawcutt received a plaque, and he and Roman will be eligible for the USPCA’s national Patrol Case of the Quarter and the Region 12 and national Patrol Case of the Year.
