Monday night saw the Cromwell Cards square off against the McGregor Mercs in the Section 5A girls playoff play-in game. The Cards came in as the No. 8 seed and McGregor the No. 9 seed. Cromwell proved worthy of their higher seeding by picking up a 69-38 win and the right to play No. 1 seed Barnum Thursday this week.

Cromwell shot out to a 31-16 halftime lead and were never threatened by the Mercs as Ari Korpela led the way with 31 points, Ashley Collman added 13 and it was a 10-point night for RaeAnn Odegaard.

Of the 31 points from Korpela, she scored 18 from beyond the three-point arc by hitting six long-range bombs.

Both Tayah Johnson and Lisa Peterson finished with six points for the Cards and Dana Elmer added three.

Dani Hawkinson was the lone Merc in double-digit scoring as she finished with 17 points.
