Cards upset Eagles in playoffs, put nice ending on single-win season

Going winless during the regular season, the chances for Cromwell-Wright softball head coach Brad Ramberg's Cardinals to post a victory were slim to none heading into the playoffs.

Going winless during the regular season, the chances for Cromwell-Wright softball head coach Brad Ramberg's Cardinals to post a victory were slim to none heading into the playoffs.

That was, until Ramberg's Cards got just the win they were looking for.

Cromwell-Wright stunned East Central, flying past the Eagles 13-7 on the road in the first round of the Section 5A playoffs to earn their first victory of the year. The lone win on the year against the Eagles - a club the Cards lost to 12-9 earlier in the season - was a major highlight for a program that has only post two victories now in the last handful of years.

The big win advanced the Cards into the second round against top-ranked Barnum - a game in which they were defeated by the Bombers 10-0 in five innings.

The one victory on the season doesn't look like much and their 1-12 mark throughout the spring isn't the best, but a win is a win and that's something that Ramberg's group worked very hard for all year long.

The Cardinals lose five seniors, but with a number talented players returning to the diamond next season now understanding how to win, one can sure bet that Ramberg's bunch will be flying higher than ever.
