CARLTON, Minn. - Coming into her first season with the Carlton softball program, head coach Brooke Lee knew that she had to get her Bulldogs to focus on the fundamentals if they wanted to start winning.
And winning is something the Bulldogs did as well as any team in the Northland.
The Carlton softball program had only won five games over the past two seasons, yet under Lee, the Bulldogs posted a 15-6 overall record on the year and made a historic run to the Section 7A Final Four.
The Bulldogs' hard work really started to payoff as they came together as a team when it mattered most. And for her first-year at the helm, Lee was satisfied.
"It is really amazing what this team did, said Lee about a group that won more games this season than in five years. "These girls really should hold their heads high. They worked hard from day one and they should be very proud of what they did this season. They just wanted to be out there and truly cared about the game."

And though Carlton's historic season came to a close in the Final Four with a loss to eventual section champ Silver Bay and lost all-star seniors Mia Saunders and Holly Nelson to graduation this spring, Lee knows that her group of girls gave it all they had.
"We have a really young team so the future looks very promising," she said. "These girls are just so coachable and are really a great group. They wanted to get better this season and that is exactly what they did."
