It's time to put your navigational skills, love of local history and bonds of friendship to the ultimate test this coming Fourth of July.

Based on the "Amazing Race" TV show, "Big Day Cloquet '08" will be a scavenger/treasure hunt featuring Cloquet landmarks and history sponsored by the Carlton County Historical Society and the Fourth of July planning team.

Teams of two will compete in a race designed to test the mind, spirit and, most importantly, the sense of humor.

Participants will be asked to follow clues and complete challenges throughout the course.

The first three teams to finish will receive a prize. The race is appropriate for families, friends, and frenemies over age 6. Teams can get around using public transportation and their own two feet. No bikes, scooters, Segways or cabs allowed.

It costs $5 to enter (but winning is priceless). To register, call or e-mail the Carlton County Historical Society at 218-879-1938 or cchs@cpinternet.com . The race will begin at 12:30 p.m. in Veterans Park in Cloquet on July 4.

Make new friends, enjoy Cloquet, and most of all have fun!
