Aune D. Ranta, 86, of Brookston passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, at Sunnyside Health Care Center in Cloquet. She was born May 1, 1920, in Duluth, Minn. In her early life, she was active in the Brookston PTA and instrumental in the planning of the New AlBrook School. Aune was also active in the Ladies Aid of the Brookston Methodist Church and the Brookston American Legion Post #562 Auxiliary. She wrote the Brookston area news for the Cloquet Pine Knot. In later years, because of her failing eyesight, she developed a love for music, especially enjoying her CDs and the special musical programs at Sunnyside.
Aune's family would like to extend a special thank you to Jane, the nurse manager, and the staff at Sunnyside Health Care Center for their loving care.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilho, her parents, son Wayne, grandsons Robert and Scott, and brother Bill Heino.
Aune is survived by her children, Karen Alseth, Nancy Michaud and Don Ranta; grandson, James (Lori) Michaud; great-granddaughter, Anna Michaud; brother, Roy (Carol) Heino; niece, Judi (Harry) Wickhorst; and nephew, John (Wendy) Heino.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Dec. 27, from 5-7 p.m. in Handevidt Funeral Home, 900 Washington Avenue, Cloquet. The visitation will resume Thursday, Dec. 28, from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service, also in the funeral home. Spring interment will be in Culver Cemetery, Culver Township, Minn.
