The Arrowhead Library System has temporarily suspended its Bookmobile service due to safety concerns with the current vehicle. A new Bookmobile is scheduled to be delivered in late January, at which time the 2007 schedule will be resumed with all the usual routes.
"Our Bookmobile staff are disappointed that they will be unable to provide library service to their loyal patrons for the next few weeks, but we could not compromise the safety of our staff," said Shelley Rogers, supervisor of the ALS Bookmobile service. "Efforts are under way to locate a used vehicle for temporary service, but it might not be possible to locate a vehicle quickly enough to cover this interim period. The new Bookmobile will be on the road once it arrives and we have a few days to load it with library materials."
A great many of the library materials on the new Bookmobile will be brand new, having been purchased with funds donated during the 2006 'Love Your Library with a Gift' fund-raising campaign. The new Bookmobile is being constructed by OBS, Inc. in Canton, Ohio.
"The Arrowhead Library System staff and management team regret the inconvenience this temporary suspension of operations may cause our customers, and we appreciate their patience," added Rogers. "We hope to be back on the road during the week of January 29, so we invite everyone to come back then and celebrate with us!"
