Area churches prepare for Christmas worship

As the Christmas season reaches its height, places of worship throughout Carlton County are planning special worship services to celebrate Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The public is welcome to join in any of the traditional observances of the season. Contact the church offices for more information.

Following is a listing of many of the services planned.

Cloquet Gospel Tabernacle, 1400 Washington Avenue, Cloquet, is planning worship on Christmas Eve at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24.

Cloquet Presbyterian Church, 47 Fourth Street, Cloquet, will hold a 4 p.m. Christmas Eve worship service in the Walnut Room and a 9 p.m. service in the sanctuary.

Grace Baptist Church, 601 14th Street, Cloquet, will host its Christmas Eve Service of Lights at 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24. For further information, call the church office at (218) 879-5749.

Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 102 Fourth Street, Cloquet, will celebrate Christmas Eve Mass at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Christmas Day Mass at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 515 Skyline Boulevard, Cloquet, invites everyone to join Pastor Joel Brutlag at their 6:30 p.m. Christmas Eve worship service. There will be pre-service music for those who would like to come early to enjoy the holiday sounds. Christmas Day worship will be held on Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 12th Street and Doddridge Avenue, Cloquet, has scheduled Christmas Eve candlelight services for 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24. The service will also be broadcast on Christmas Day at 3 p.m. on WKLK Radio.

Pine Valley Covenant, 55 Armory Road, Cloquet, has set its Christmas Eve worship service for 4 p.m.

Zion Lutheran Church, 1000 Washington Avenue, Cloquet, plans a 4 p.m. service on Christmas Eve with music by the Fellowship Choir. Additional Christmas Eve services are planned for 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., featuring special music. The late service will include communion, and all will be candlelight services. Zion will also host the Community Christmas Dinner on Tuesday, Dec. 25, beginning at 2 p.m. Anyone wanting to share in a holiday dinner or who would otherwise be spending Christmas alone is invited to attend. For information on arranging a ride to the dinner or take out, call the church office at (218) 879-4647.

Bethel Lutheran Church, 29th Street and Washington Avenue, Scanlon, will hold Christmas Eve worship at 4 p.m. on Monday.

Bethesda Lutheran Church, 204 Fifth Street, Carlton, plans Christmas Eve services at 3 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. The late worship will include a candle lighting service and the sacrament of Holy Communion.

J.M. Paine Presbyterian Church, Carlton, will hold its Christmas Eve service at 6 p.m.

St. Francis Catholic Church, 509 Sunrise Drive, Carlton, will celebrate Mass on Christmas Eve at 5:30 p.m. Christmas Day Mass is scheduled for 8 a.m.

Saints Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, 1225 Mission Road, Sawyer, plans Christmas Eve Mass at 4 p.m., with no Christmas Day Mass.

Bethany Lutheran Church, Cromwell, will celebrate Christmas Eve with a candlelight service at 8 p.m.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Wright, has scheduled a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 10 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24.

Apostolic Lutheran Church, 25 Church Road, Esko, plans two worship services on Christmas Eve, one at 4 p.m. and one at 10 p.m.

Northwood United Methodist Church, 62 West Highway 61, Esko, is planning a worship service of "Lessons, Carols and Candles" at 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24.

St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 1 Elizabeth Avenue, Esko, will hold candlelight communion services on Christmas Eve at 4 p.m., 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Christmas Day worship is set for Tuesday, Dec. 25, at 9 a.m. The church is also planning a New Year's Eve worship for 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 31.

First Presbyterian Church, Wrenshall, has scheduled Christmas Eve worship for 5 p.m.

Elim Lutheran Church of Blackhoof, 2077 County Road 6, Barnum, is planning a worship of "Family Carols and Candles" at 4 p.m. and a 10:30 p.m. service of "Cards, Candles and Communion."

Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 3756 Fair Street, Barnum, will host its Children's Christmas Program on Sunday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m. following its 9 a.m. worship. A Christmas Eve service is set for 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24, and Christmas Day worship will be held at 9 a.m.

St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1030 West Road, Moose Lake, has scheduled Christmas Eve worship for 4 p.m. The congregation will join together with Emmanuel Lutheran Church for Christmas Day worship at 9 a.m.
