Anthony "Tony" Bernard Swierceski, 89, of Cloquet passed away Monday, July 9, 2007, at St. Eligius Health Center in Duluth. He was born Nov. 28, 1917, in Cloquet to Leonard and Rose (Jusczak) Swierceski and graduated from the Cloquet High School. Tony was united in marriage to Marjorie Pekula on July 8, 1939, in Little Falls, Minn. He served with the United States Army during World War II and received the Victory Medal. Tony lived at Big Sandy Lake from 1974-1994 and was a former member of St. Casimir's Catholic Church. He worked for Northwest Paper Company in Cloquet for 13 years and then owned and operated City Garbage Service for over 25 years. Tony was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Hebert-Kennedy VFW Post 3979, and the Carl Anderson American Legion Post 262.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie; a daughter, Judy Ann Swierceski; a son, William Swierceski; one brother, Raymond Swierceski; and one grandson, Jeffery R. Angell.
He is survived by one son, John (Thais) Swierceski of Duluth; two daughters, Debra Angell of Pine City, Minn., and Patricia Swierceski of Cloquet; one brother, Leo Swierceski of Cloquet; two sisters, Lillian Piwon of Cloquet and Lorraine Lisdahl of Superior; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Friday, July 13, from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. memorial service at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Inurnment services were at Old Calvary Cemetery with full military honors presented by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. A time of fellowship followed at the funeral home.
Memorials are preferred to the Queen of Peace Sunshine Fund.
