Annual Fall Gathering to be held Sept. 19 and 20 at North West Company Fur Post near Pine City

Celebrate the season with a 19th-century fall gathering of Ojibwe, voyageurs and fur traders. Watch as contestants vie for the title of the best all-around voyageur with tests of strength and cunning. Listen to traditional music, participate in children's activities, discover camp life and visit with the historical merchants. A festive dance at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday is a highlight of the weekend. Co-sponsored by the Friends of the North West Company Fur Post. The Fall Gathering Weekend is held Saturday, Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 20 from noon to 4 p.m. Cost of the event is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and college students, $5 for children ages 6-17 and free for children age 5 and under and MHS members.

The Minnesota Historical Society site is located 1.5 miles west of I-35 at Pine City along County Hwy. 7. An authentically reconstructed post from the winter of 1804-05, the site includes a visitor center, designed to complement the surrounding environment, featuring a Great Room, fireplace and retail space. Exhibits explore how the fur trade shaped the region. Costumed guides help interpret the site and guide visitors back to the days when furs were traded here under the British flag.
