Anna Juola, 96, a lifelong resident of the Cloquet-Esko area, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007. At the age of 13, Anna became the matriarch of a large family of brothers and sisters when their mother died. She learned to work hard and working became a way of life she enjoyed. Anna was employed in a variety of Cloquet businesses until she was 80 years old. She enjoyed meeting people through service. Anna loved being with and caring for her large family and was a devoted grandma.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her daughter, Dorothy Johnson; six brothers and one sister.
Anna is survived by two daughters, Georgiana Thill of Bend, Ore., and Carol (Jim) Avant of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Johnson of Cloquet; and three sisters, Ida Welton, Esther Pastika and Joyce (Uuno) Suominen, all of Cloquet.
Visitation was held Monday, Aug. 27, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service in Apostolic Lutheran Church, Esko. Burial was in Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery.
