Alton "Al" Bernard Arbuckle, 79, of Cloquet passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. He was born Jan. 15, 1928, in Cloquet to Elias and Marigold (Santineau) Arbuckle and graduated from Cloquet High School and was a star basketball player. Alton entered into the United States Navy where he served as a frogman in the "Navy Seals." He then worked and retired from Diamond Match Company in Cloquet. Al was selected to be named on the Centennial All Star Basketball team in Cloquet.
Alton was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Orland, Fred and Wenzel Arbuckle; and one sister, Louise Mickelson.
He is survived by one brother, Patrick Arbuckle of Chicago; one sister, Theo Mayberry of Opp, Ala.; nieces and nephews, Kay Deegan, Sandra Weedman, Marilyn Walters, Peggy Roy, Jack Joseph, Nancy Kersey, Joanne Lutter, Jim Arbuckle, Shawn Arbuckle and Chris Arbuckle; and numerous grand nieces and grand nephews.
Visitation was held Friday, April 13, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet, officiated by Betty Starkey, lay pastor. Music was performed by Liz Sinisalo. A luncheon was held in the fellowship room following the service. Spring interment services will be at Old Calvary Cemetery.
