Agate Days, Arts In The Park to take center stage in Moose Lake

Ready to rock? Then hold onto your hats - it's Agate Days!

This weekend marks the 38th Annual Agate Days festivities in Moose Lake, co-sponsored by the Carlton County Gem and Mineral Club and the Moose Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. Set for Saturday and Sunday, July 14-15, the event will feature fossils, minerals, gems and jewelry of all types.

An outdoor gold panning display will be of interest to the whole family, and everyone will enjoy the excitement of the annual Clark-Olsen Agate Stampede at 2 p.m. on Saturday. A wild scramble of finders keepers will have hearts pounding as 350 pounds of agates and $300 in quarters complements of First National Bank, the Star-Gazette and the Lake State Federal Credit Union are added to a truck full of agates and spread along Elm Avenue in downtown Moose Lake.

Professional and amateur rock hounds of all ages are invited to wander through the Gem and Mineral Show at Moose Lake High School on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

While in Moose Lake, be sure to take in the Art In The Park event at Moose Lake City Park sponsored by the Art In The Park Committee in conjunction with the Moose Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and the city of Moose Lake.

Kids games will be featured from 10 a.m. to noon, sponsored by the local AFSCME union. The arts and crafts displays will include all-handmade woodwork, photography, pottery, birdhouses, jewelry, rugs and blankets. There will also be entertainment and food from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
