The Minnesota Association of Resource Conservation and Development (MARC&D) Councils, Inc., presented their "Outstanding Council Member' award to Carlton County Commissioner Gordon Aanerud at their official summer meeting on Sept. 11 in International Falls.
Aanerud serves as a council member of the Onanegozie RC&D, serving the east central Minnesota counties of Aitkin, Carlton, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs and Pine.
Aanerud stated he believes that for communities to be vibrant, they need involvement for all their citizens, adding that R C&D provides the leadership for this to occur.
He also said he believes the RC&D councils are a very valuable part of rural living and it is an organization that works well and impacts many lives for the better.
Aanerud is tireless in his support of the Onanegozie RC&D Council and its projects. As chair, he is particularly effective encouraging a concept for a sense of multi-county accomplishment.

Council members realize that not every county can have a completed project every year, but every RC&D Council member can take collective pride in the Council's accomplishments, regardless of where they occur.
In the past 15 years, Aanerud has played a major role in bringing projects to the Council for consideration, and assisting with the goals an objectives necessary to meet the challenges of completion.
Aanerud is one of the first to volunteer to be on a committee for area plans, business plans of work, audits, nominating or planning for meetings and seminars.
Onanegozie RC&D was also recognized for having an Isanti County project, "News from the Rum River Watershed," named as the "Outstanding Supporting Organization."
