The Itasca County and St. Louis County sheriff's offices are asking the public to disregard a text from state Homeland Security and Emergency Management division.

The message stated that people should evacuate immediately, according to news releases from the sheriff's offices. Itasca County stated the error has caused a flood of calls to the dispatch center.

People in Aitkin, Carlton, Cass and Pine counties also received the text, according to HSEM.

The text was sent in error Wednesday morning due to a system glitch. Authorities are investigating why the message was sent outside the testing environment.
