More than 100 new rental units could be available in Cloquet and Carlton in the next two years.
On Monday, March 25, the Carlton County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a $174,000 gap-financing loan to Willows Edge. The new 30-unit residential apartment building will be built in Carlton off Carlton Road, behind the Inter-Faith Care Center.
The proposed building, for residents ages 55 and older, will feature 18 one-bedroom units, five two-bedroom units and seven efficiency units. Six of the units will be available for low- to mid-income residents and the remaining will be current market rates.
Willows Edge is awaiting permit approval. Construction is expected to take one year.
