The Cloquet Area Fire District reports it has been awarded a $6,375 grant from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety–State Fire Marshal Division for the purchase of a turnout gear dryer.

“Cancer is a major health and safety concern in the fire service, and contaminated personal protective equipment is one of the largest exposure risks,” the CAFD posted on its Facebook page. “Every CAFD Firefighter is issued two complete sets of turnout gear to allow for washing between incidents and the CAFD provides commercial washer/extractors in three of the CAFD facilities for easy access by staff.

“The grant will provide a drying system to more quickly return our gear to service, and shorten the overall cleaning process between fires.”
