CCHS, library to host 1918 fire books event
The Carlton County Historical Society and Cloquet Public Library will present a free program commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 1918 Cloquet fire Saturday, Sept. 29, at the library.
Local authors who have published books about the fire will sign and sell copies of their books at 10:30 a.m. Author tables will feature books published by the Carlton County Historical Society, the Esko Historical Society, the Moose Lake Historical Society and authors Pamela Erickson (“The Memory Quilt”) and Connie Jacobson (“Hellfire in Hermantown”).
At 11 a.m., Francis Carroll, co-author of “The Fires of Autumn,” and Marlene Wisuri, co-author and editor of “Fire Storm: The Great Fires of 1918,” will present a slideshow giving an overview of the books and articles written about the Oct. 12, 1918, fires of Carlton County and adjacent counties.
Refreshments will be served after the event.
