Second Harvest starts mobile food pantry program in Cloquet

Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank now offers a monthly Mobile Food Pantry Program distribution from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of every month at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church parking lot (615 12th Street) in Cloquet. The next event is Oct. 19.

“As many as 1,200 Cloquet area residents are food insecure,” said Shaye Moris, Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank’s executive director. “We want to supplement the work that’s already happening and ensure local families, children and seniors have access to a regular supply of nutritional food — including fresh produce.”

The Mobile Food Pantry Program is much like a “food shelf on wheels.” Second Harvest delivers a truckload of food to a local community, eligible participants are registered, and community volunteers help distribute the food. Once distribution is over, the truck returns to the food bank in Duluth.

The new Cloquet Mobile will operate the third Thursday of each month with assistance from Cloquet’s Vineyard Church and other community volunteers. Food is free to participants.
