Almost every year the Barnum softball team plays well into the section softball tournament and this year they didn't disappoint. The Bombers played all the way into the Section 5A finals before dropping a pair of games to Maple Lake to finish second in the tournament.
Barnum had gained the finals of the double-elimination tournament with a string of wins and was the only undefeated team left in the bracket. Maple Lake had to defeat the Bombers twice last Wednesday in order to pull out the section championship.
In the first game of the double-elimination bracket, the Bombers lost 2-1 to Maple Lake despite a two-hit and nine-strikeout performance by senior pitcher Megan Myhre.
On offense Alyssa Shanda had a hit and scored the lone run for Barnum. Katrina Newman smacked a double.
Game two action saw Maple Lake cruise to a 15-5 victory in five innings of the game played in St. Cloud.
Myhre walked four batters and fanned three while giving up 12 hits.
Offensively Myhre went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
