The 14th Annual Fond du Lac Reservation Veterans' Powwow will feature a new addition this year: 30 minutes of fireworks . Hollywood Pyrotechnics, headquartered in St. Paul, will put on the display that's expected to start at about 10 p.m. on July 14. The fireworks will appear over Big Lake and will be clearly seen by those on the powwow grounds.
Spectators in boats on the lake need to be at least 1,000 feet from the discharge area. Spectators on land need to be 600 to 700 feet from the area.
Virtually anyone around the Big Lake area will have a good view of the fireworks, said Mira LaCous, president of Hollywood Pyrotechnics. As a safety measure, local firefighters will be on site.
The powwow will be held from July 13-15 at the Mash-Ka-Wisen Powwow Grounds in Sawyer, Minn. The grounds are located at Highway 210 and Mission Road.
The event starts with a 7 p.m. Grand Entry on July 13. Saturday festivities include a 1 p.m. Grand Entry, the Honoring Veterans celebration at 1:30 p.m., a 5 p.m. feast, and a 7 p.m. Grand Entry.
