Evergreen Knoll retirement community residents in Cloquet received a special treat when the Cloquet Community Band visited Monday, Dec. 10, to perform Christmas songs.

The band played a number of holiday standards for about an hour. Band director Carol Risdon shared the origins of some of the songs. "Let It Snow," for example, was written during a Los Angeles heat wave in 1945, she said.

The performance also served as a rehearsal for the band's 17th annual Christmas concert Sunday, Dec. 16.

As the band was wrapping up, a member of the audience yelled out a "thank you" and Risdon teased a repeat performance next year.

"If you liked it, maybe we'll come back again," she said.
