The days when steam engines plied the railways, roadways and fields will be recreated once again at this year's 49th Annual Lakehead Harvest Show in rural Esko.
The event is slated for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 27, 28 and 29, at the show grounds located at 70 E. St. Louis River Road.
"Several people heard that the man who owned the land where the show is held had passed away and they were worried if that would mean an end to the event this year," said co-organizer Bill Ritchie. "I want everyone to know that the Harvest Show is still alive and well and will be held in the same location again this year."
Entertainment and education for the entire family will include demonstrations on sawmilling, threshing, blacksmithing, shingle making, field work and potato digging. An antique rock crusher will be featured as well as a wide variety of steam- and gas-powered machinery that will be highlighted during a daily parade to be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, 1 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday, followed by daily door prize drawings.
Food concessions will be available on the grounds, and there will also be flea markets, ladies' activities, and a church service on Saturday evening.

Saturday's big feature event will be the Antique and Classic Tractor Pull beginning at 2:30 p.m. The event will feature antique classes for tractors dating back to 1939 or older, classic classes for tractors from 1955 or older, and open classes for tractors from 1965 or older. A special steel-wheel class and crawlers class will be run at the end of the pull.
On Sunday, the tractor action gets under way at 1 p.m. with a special Stock Garden Tractor Pulling Contest, followed by the Slow Tractor Race at 2:30 p.m.
The Lakehead Harvest Show is open to the public, with a daily or weekend donation taken at the gate which includes gate admission, wristband, event button and door prize ticket.
The annual event is organized by the Lakehead Harvest Reunion, an educational non-profit organization.
