Doug "George Jones" Soukkala will sing along with "Country Junction" from 5-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at TJ's Country Corner in Mahtowa to open the annual Mahtowa Highway 61 Folks Festival weekend. In addition, TJ's famous wurst and Salem Lutheran Church's annual pie sale will be there to satisfy hungry music lovers. Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, the bluegrass band, "One Fast Move," will play at Rob's Mahtowa Tavern.
On Saturday, Aug. 7, the Singer/Songwriter Contest will be held from noon to 3 p.m.,
followed by live music at 4 p.m. that will continue throughout the evening, featuring "The Moss Piglets" and "The Boys 'n the Barrels." The Mahtowa Firefighters Steak Fry will begin at 5 p.m. at the fire hall.
On Sunday, Aug. 8, a pancake breakfast will be served at 10 a.m. at Rob's Mahtowa Tavern, followed at 11 a.m. by a gospel/bluegrass group from Duluth, "Just a Little Talk with Jesus." The weekly farm markets will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday as well.
