The Arrowhead Regional Arts Council announces upcoming grant deadlines for funding for individual artists who reside in the following counties: Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis. This year, the ARAC will combine all of the individual artist grant programs into one program -- the McKnight/ARAC Individual Artist Support Program.
The dates for the upcoming grant writing workshop and the grant program deadlines are:
Wednesday, August 12, 2009 Grant Writing Workshop. Jean Sramek, Program Assistant, will provide technical assistance in preparing and submitting an application, grant writing tips, project eligibility, and other topics. Artists interested in applying for Artist Support Grant funding are encouraged to attend this workshop. The free grant writing workshop will take place from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Common Area of the Marshall School Annex Building, 1301 Rice Lake Road, Duluth.
Friday, August 28, 2009 and Friday, November 27, 2009 McKnight/ARAC Artist Support Grant Application Deadlines. The McKnight/ARAC Individual Artist Support Program grants provide support and assistance to regional artists from all cultural backgrounds at various stages in their careers. It encourages artistic development by taking advantage of an impending, concrete opportunity; nurtures artistic creativity through an artist generated opportunity; and recognizes the contributions individual artists make to the cultural environment of the Arrowhead Region. Artists working in contemporary or traditionally based visual, literary, performing or media arts are eligible to apply to this program which has three deadlines per year. Artists may apply as an individual or as part of collaboration. An impending, concrete opportunity must be a unique, short-term opportunity that will have a significant impact on the artist's career. This program is also designed to allow artists the time to achieve career goals, to purchase supplies and materials, to participate in advanced study not related to a degree program, or to pursue other activities that will allow them to meet their artistic goals. Awarded opportunities must be completed within twelve months of the date the artist is notified of the award. An artist may request up to $3,000.
