SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES
NOVEMBER 19, 2018, 2018

The Wrenshall Board of Education, Independent School District No. 100, Wrenshall, Minnesota held its regular board meeting on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in the Wrenshall Library Media Center. Chairperson Laveau called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m.

Members present: Matthew Laveau, Janaki Fisher-Merritt, Michelle Blanchard, Warren Weiderman, and Tony Sheda.
Member absent: Renae House.

MOTION by Blanchard seconded by Fisher-Merritt to adopt the agenda. Motion carried unanimously.

MOTION by Fisher-Merritt seconded by Weiderman to approve the consent agenda including checks #49244-#49368. Motion carried unanimously.

Superintendent Belcastro recognized:
Many thanks to the School Board and District Facilities Committee for all their hard work on the referendum.
Carlton-Wrenshall Cross Country coaches and athletes will be welcomed at the December meeting due to a scheduling issue.

Report of Superintendent:
ALICE training for all Wrenshall School staff - November 21 was discussed.
Gym space update was given.
Response to Carlton School Board letter dated September 18, 2018 has been sent.
Teacher Evaluation schedule 2018-2019 was discussed.
Enrollment update was given.
Institute for Environmental Assessment safety consultant contract was discussed.

Report of Director of Buildings and Grounds:
Discussed Facilities new and ongoing maintenance throughout the grounds.
School water heater replacement was discussed.
Updated security system was discussed.

Report of Technology Director
Technology update was discussed.

Report of Community Education Director
Food Farm community education class was held last week.
Wren's Club billing system.
Social Media Safety class is coming soon.
AARP refresher class coming soon.
Bentleyville trip on December 10 for all community members who sign up.

Report of Athletic Director
Wrenshall Athletic Department Policies and Procedures.
Travel Release Form - athlete ride home with family.
Participation Fee Refund Application Form.
Chemical violations discussed.
24 Hour Cool Down Rule discussed.
" Coaches Continuing Education Courses participation discussed.
Final policy and procedure document will be provided at next meeting.

Informational items:
Minnesota School Board Association Strategic Planning Services to be utilized February 2019.
Girls Basketball and Boys Basketball home game schedules.
Upward Bound program through St. Scholastica discussed.
Golden K Cloquet Kiwanis letter thanking students help at September 15, 2018 fundraiser event.

MOTION by Fisher Merritt seconded by Blanchard to ratify July 1, 2018 - June 30, 2020 contract between AFSCME Council 65, Local 545 and Wrenshall ISD #100. Motion carried unanimously.

MOTION Blanchard seconded by Weiderman to approve Northern Lights Special Education Cooperative 2018-2019 Contract for ECSE Activities. Motion carried unanimously.

MOTION by Weiderman seconded by Sheda to approve posting 4 hour per school contact day Assistant Cook grade 3, with Board suggestion to look at raising breakfast prices for 2019-2020 school year, per AFSCME Wrenshall ISD #100. Motion carried unanimously.

MOTION by Blanchard seconded by Fisher-Merritt to approve hiring Olivia Ziebarth as Early Childhood Education Aide at $10.00 per hour effective October 31, 2018 (Community Education). Motion carried unanimously.

MOTION by Sheda seconded by Weiderman to approve Beth Peterson and Renee Duncan working as a team for homecoming advisor position per ED MN Wrenshall effective 2018-2019 school year. Motion carried unanimously.

MOTION by Fisher-Merritt seconded by Blanchard to accept John Atella resignation paid through December 31, 2018 1.0 FTE Secondary Special Education effective November 16, 2018. Motion carried unanimously.

MOTION by Weiderman seconded by Blanchard to approve posting 1.0 FTE Secondary Special Education Long Term Substitute for second semester 2018-2019 as open until filled. Motion carried unanimously.

MOTION by Sheda seconded by Weiderman to approve recommendation from Mr. Zywicki to reinstate Sue Tracy National Honor Society advisor (replacing John Atella) per ED MN Wrenshall effective 2018-2019 school year. Motion carried unanimously.

MOTION by Blanchard seconded by Fisher-Merritt to approve Alana Hill Junior High Girls basketball coach per ED MN Wrenshall contract effective 2019-2019 school year. Motion carried unanimously.

MOTION by Laveau seconded by Weiderman to accept donation with thanks from Jamar Company for Mr. Gustafson's robotics program. Motion carried unanimously.

MOTION by Blanchard seconded by Weiderman to approve Institute for Environmental Assessment contract effective July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019 contingent on acceptance of one year contract. Motion carried unanimously.

MOTION by Fisher-Merritt seconded by Weiderman to adjourn at 7:39 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.
