WRENSHALL ISD 100 SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES
APRIL 14, 2014

The Wrenshall Board of Education, Independent School District No. 100, Wrenshall, Minnesota held their regular Board meeting in the Wrenshall Media Center on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 6:00 p.m.

Chairperson Powers called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

Members present: Matthew Laveau, Troy Powers, Janaki Fisher-Merritt, Renae House, Michelle Blanchard, Tony Sheda and Superintendent Kimberly Belcastro.

Item 6a was amended to read retirement rather than resignation.

MOTION by Fisher-Merritt second by House to approve the agenda with changes. Motion carried unanimously.

MOTION by Fisher-Merritt second by Blanchard to approve the consent agenda items as follows: Motion carried unanimously.

Approval of Expense Summary
Approval of Deposit Summary
Approval of Electronic Funds Transfers
Approval of Current Cash Flow Report
Approval of Multi-Year Expense-Revenue Summary

Recognition of Staff, Students and Community:
Ms. North and the Knowledge Bowl team who competed at state and did very well.
Ms. Fenlason and the Speech Team who qualified 7 students for state competition. Masen Virginia placed 8th. Chloe Swanson and Neil Porter took first place in their division.
Erik Holter and Erin Riley for their work on the PREP program.

Business Manager's Report:
Personnel budget is in place. Revenue budget is in process. Items to be considered: purchase of van, technology and facilities upgrades and negotiation of the Para contract.

Superintendent's Report:
Kindergarten Round-up went very well; 21 students are signed up for 2014-2015 school year. Current second grade enrollment is at 29.

Community Ed Report:
ECFE classes will be switched to daytime on Fridays. Currently looking for a parent educator.
Wrenshall Wrens Club will add "all day" Mondays and Fridays for Little Wrens and Hatchlings students. Three year olds will not ride the bus, four year olds will continue to do so.
Looking at a possible room changes for Wrenshall Wrens Club.

Jaime Wolfe and Pam Niesen reported on the secondary math program.

Jaime Wolfe and Erik Holter presented on testing. Changes to testing being made to meet graduation requirements.

Discussion on the need for a Food Service committee to review meal planning, portion sizes and salad bar availability.

Math and Reading Corp programs have been approved for 2014-2015.

Yearly contract for Per Mar Security has been approved for 2014-2015.

MOTION by House second by Laveau to accept the retirement of Diana Kallestad, Elementary Teacher and thanking her for her years of service. Motion carried unanimously.

MOTION by Powers second by Fisher-Merritt to accept with thanks a donation from Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. (on behalf of David Bisel) of $100 to be used for science and mathematics enrichment. Motion carried unanimously.

MOTION by Powers second by Laveau to accept the bid from Young Plumbing Inc. for the pool heater installation.

Chip Jacobs and Eric Kaiser of Foster, Jacobs & Johnson were present to discuss ten year facilities and educational planning. A recommendation will be presented to the board at a future meeting.

MOTION by Powers second by Fisher-Merritt to adjourn at 7:45 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.
