Photos: Fun in the sun at Esko Days

Five days of fun in the sun during Esko Fun Days came to an end Saturday, Aug. 10.

The 22nd annual Kristen Burkholder 5K walk/run drew about 200 entries. Sean Gaskell, a 2007 Esko alumnus, took first place with a time of 16:49. The 30-year-old had been on a forced break for 1 ½ years due to an injury. This is the second race he has won this summer.

The race was followed by a parade, a barbecue in Northridge Park and a street dance at the Esko Fire Hall.

2/8: Sean Gaskell, 30, and Ethan Olson, 19, take an early lead in the Kristen Burkholder 5K walk/run. Gaskell, a 2007 graduate of Esko took first with 16.49. Gaskell began running in 2006. He took a year and a half off of running due to an injury and is happy to be back."This is my second race in the last 1 1/2 years," Gaskell said. "It hurts getting back into shape, but I'm just glad to be healthy." Olson is a Moose Lake alum and is currently running at the University of Minnesota, Duluth.
