The 148th Fighter Wing will conduct a change of responsibility ceremony Friday afternoon on its base at the Duluth International Airport.
Chief Master Sgt. Jozef Miketin was selected as Command Chief of the 148th Fighter Wing and will serve as the senior enlisted adviser to the wing commander, Col. Chris Blomquist, and as the wing-level representative for all enlisted members.
He'll take over as command chief for Chief Master Sgt. Lisa Erikson, who is being promoted to command chief of the Minnesota Air National Guard on Saturday in a change of responsibility ceremony at the state Capitol.
Erikson will become the first woman command chief of the state's Air Guard, making her the senior enlisted advisor for 2,200 airmen with the 148th and 133rd Airlift Wing in the Twin Cities. She's taking over for another former Duluthian, Chief Master Sgt. Mark Rukavina.
"The enlisted tier has really been represented by the Northern Minnesota tier and that legacy is continuing for at least the next couple of years," 148th spokesperson Audra Flanagan said.
A native of Esko, Miketin is employed as a sergeant in the patrol division of the Duluth Police Department, where he serves as a team leader on the Tactical Response Team.
Additionally, Miketin works at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in Cloquet as a faculty member and business program coordinator.
“Chief Miketin has proven success in his roles supporting federal and state missions since joining the Minnesota National Guard in 1998,” Blomquist said in a statement this week. “His education and military experience combined with his duties with the Duluth Police Department and Fond Du Lac Tribal and Community College make him a natural choice to lead and represent the 900-plus enlisted members of the 148th Fighter Wing.”
In 2003, Miketin was deployed to Iraq with the 79th Military Police Company where he served as a fire team leader. As a result of his efforts in Iraq, Miketin was awarded combat patch, Combat Action Badge and Army Commendation Medal.
In 2006, Miketin enlisted at the 148th Fighter Wing as a security forces specialist. In that capacity, Miketin has served as a fire team leader, squad leader, flight chief, training manager, operations superintendent, security forces manager and chief enlisted manager.
Most recently, Miketin served as the senior enlisted leader of 100 airmen during the presidential inauguration of Joe Biden in January in Washington, D.C., and an April state active duty mission, Operation Safety Net, designed to protect the public during the trial of Derek Chauvin in Brooklyn Center and St. Paul.
