“Doing Things of Significance After 50” — The 2015 Carlton County Council on Aging’s monthly meetings will begin this season by featuring this presentation by Burt Laine. Older adults may be in a new chapter of life, but life can still be very fulfilling. Come and hear about how you can live a life of adventure and purpose. UnderOneRoof Conference — Every year disasters of all kinds affect Northland businesses and families. The Under One Roof Conference provides an opportunity to connect, learn and share. Area specialists will share about the latest developments, trends, best practices and explore new ideas related to emergency preparedness. Mark your calendars for Tuesday and Wednesday, May 19-20, and join together at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center. Volunteer opportunities through RSVP
Coffee and Visiting — Many older adults would love to have someone come and spend a little time visiting with them. This can take place one-on-one or in a group. Or, you can even connect via phone. Time commitment is very flexible and opportunities are available in various settings throughout Carlton County.
Yard Raking and Cleanup — Enjoy fresh air while you help someone spruce up their yard this spring.
For the Love of Books — Volunteers are needed to assist May 1-2 with the library’s annual book sale. Also seeking volunteers to assist with setup and/or cleanup for library programs.
Homemaking Services — Seeking volunteers willing to assist homebound individuals with light housekeeping tasks, such as doing dishes, laundry, light dusting or vacuuming, and possibly grocery shopping.
Group or In-Home Respite Support — Everyone needs a break now and then! Looking for individuals who may be interested in giving a caregiver a much needed break by providing (non-medical) respite care. We have need of volunteers to serve both in-home and/or assist as support personnel in a local group respite program. Time commitment is very flexible and guidance will be provided as needed so volunteers feel at ease.
Share Your Gift of Music — Residents of local assisted living homes would love it if you shared your talents. Time and commitment is very flexible.
