Community Calendar: Tech and Coffee, Cinco de Mayo celebration and more

Tech & Coffee, 9-11 a.m., Chickadee Coffeehouse & Deli, Barnum. Barnum Community Education hosts the free event. Community members can drop in to get help with their cell phones, e-readers, tablets, laptops, social media platforms and more. Community education staff and Nathan Rimolde from RTS will be on hand to answer questions.

Snack Chat, 3:30-5:30 p.m., Cloquet Public Library. REACH sponsors the weekly event for kids. Participants will make a snack and chat with others while they eat.

Cince de Mayo Celebration, 5-7 p.m., Cromwell Park Pavilion. The Cromwell Area Community Club invites everyone to their Cinco de Mayo celebration. The organization’s members will provide information on what the club is all about, but there is no obligation to join if you attend.

Ping pong and air hockey for teens, 4-5 p.m., Cloquet Public Library.

Mother’s Day Craft & Vendor Show, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Cloquet Armory and Pine Tree Plaza. Handmade crafts will be featured at the Cloquet Armory and a mix of handmade and home-based businesses will offer products at the Pine Tree Plaza. Food will be available at both locations. The events feature 70 total vendors.

DAV BBQ Ride, 11 a.m., Cloquet VFW, 210 Arch St. The Carlton County Riders Club hosts a DAV BBQ ride. After hitting the trails, the group will return to the Cloquet VFW for BBQ and a raffle. The Carlton County Riders are sponsoring the "Rock Toss" game again at the White Pine River Bridge to raise money for the DAV. Mother-Daughter Tea and Luncheon, 1 p.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Wright. The guest speaker will be retired Air National Guard Col. Penny Dieryck of the 148th Fighter Wing.

Teen Reads, 4 p.m., Cloquet Public Library. The library's teen librarian will read aloud chapters from a current book. Snacks are provided.

Story Time, 10-10:30 a.m., Cloquet Public Library, Join Ms. Keiko as she sings songs and reads a story. The program is designed for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers.

Vaccine clinic for kids ages 11-18, 3:30-5:45 p.m., Carlton County Community Services Building, 14 N. 11th St., Cloquet. The clinic will take place in the first floor public health office. There is no cost for children to get the vaccine. Insurance information will be collected and billed if the child is insured. There is no charge if the child is not insured or if insurance doesn’t cover the cost of vaccines. Vaccines available include Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis), MenACWY (Meningococcal conjugate), HPV (human papillomavirus), COVID-19, flu. Attendees should wear a mask. Do not attend the clinic if you have tested positive for COVID-19 within 10 days of the clinic. Do not attend if you have been in contact with someone who is positive for COVID-19 within five days of the clinic, if you are awaiting test results or if you have developed COVID-19 symptoms and are feeling ill. Digital Wellness for Teens, Tweens and Caregivers, 6-7:30 p.m., Cloquet Public Library. The Carlton County Youth Collaborative will discuss digital wellness. Caregivers can attend with their child or come alone. A light meal will be served and child care will be provided for younger siblings or family members.

Journey with Lilly: Raising a Child with Cochlear Implants, 4-4:45 p.m., Cloquet Public Library. Katie and Jon Beck will share their journey into the deaf and hard of hearing world with their daughter, Lilly. The free program is for kids and adults. Participants will also learn Lilly’s favorite American Sign Language (ASL) signs, including the ABCs and some basic conversation, and enjoy an ASL name craft.

Carlton Community Cleanup, 8:30 a.m., Carlton. Carlton High School students will spend the morning raking yards for community members. Families must live within the city limits of Carlton. A Community Affair 2022: Wine and Beer Tasting Fundraiser, 5:30 p.m., Cloquet Country Club, 400 Country Club Dr. Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital Foundation will host a wine and beer tasting fundraiser. The event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with appetizers, wine and beer tasting and raffle ticket sales. At 7:30 p.m., there will be a live auction followed immediately by raffle drawings. Tickets are $25 per person, $30 after May 6. Attendees do not need to be members of Cloquet Country Club to attend this event. For more information, call 218-878-7652.
