Community Calendar: Story Book Walk, library events and more

Thursday, Dec. 23

Story Book Walk, Barnum High School Nature Center. Barnum Community Education hosts the walk, where participants can walk the trail at the nature center and enjoy a story. The October walk will run from Dec. 23-31, and features the book “The Polar Express” by Chris Van Allsburg.

Monday, Dec. 27

Drop-In STEM Toys Petting Zoo, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Cloquet Public Library. People of all ages can explore and enjoy some STEM toys at the library. The event is a free, self-guided activity program.

Yoga, 11 a.m. to noon, Cromwell Pavilion. The cost is $3 per session, which covers gear and the pavilion rental. Anyone with questions can contact Ann Markusen at 218-428-3300.

Teen Reads, 4-5 p.m., Cloquet Public Library.

Carlton County Republicans, 6:30 p.m., 208 Avenue C, Cloquet. Dennis Gonsolus will speak on COVID-19 vaccinations, variations, etc. All are welcome. Those who attend are asked to bring an item for the auction.

Tuesday, Dec. 28

Kids Frozen Fox Painting, 10 a.m. to noon, Cloquet Public Library. Local artist Alyssa Swanson presents the free event for children age 5 and older. A caregiver of a young child is encouraged to attend with the child. The group will use a variety of materials to create a painting featuring a fox in a frozen nighttime landscape. Wednesday, Dec. 29

Abstract Embroidery for Teens/Tweens, 10 a.m. to noon, Cloquet Public Library. Local artist Alyssa Swanson presents the free event for teens and tweens. Attendees will learn the basics of embroidery and begin creating their own abstract embroidery. Registration is required. Register by calling 218-879-1531 or at the library's front desk.

Friday, Dec. 31

Semi Formal New Year's Eve Celebration, 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., Cromwell Park Pavilion. The event, sponsored by the Cromwell Area Community Club, includes live music by "The River Hill Rangers,” hors d'oeuvres, a champagne toast and dancing. The cover charge is $10 per person. The event is for people age 21 and older because of the cash bar.

Dungeons & Dragons, 3:30 p.m., Cloquet Public Library.

Thursday, Jan. 6

Tech & Coffee, 9-11 a.m., Chickadee Coffeehouse & Deli, Barnum. Barnum Community Education hosts the free event. Community members can drop in to get help with their cell phones, e-readers, tablets, laptops, social media platforms and more. Community education staff and Nathan Rimolde from RTS will be on hand to answer questions.

Ping Pong and Air Hockey for Teens, 4-5 p.m., Cloquet Public Library.

Tuesday, Jan. 11

Digital Wellness for Teens, Tweens and Caregivers, 6-7:30 p.m., Cloquet Public Library. The Carlton County Youth Collaborative will discuss digital wellness. Caregivers can attend with their child or come alone. A light meal will be served and child care will be provided for younger siblings or family members.

Grief Support Group meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Pine Room at Community Memorial Hospital.
