Among other traditional activities, the Cloquet community will see a new celebration this summer: Senior Citizens Day.
Cloquet Mayor Roger Maki on Tuesday, April 6, proclaimed June 15 as Senior Citizens Day to recognize area residents 60 years or older.

The event, held in conjunction with World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, will take place at Veterans Memorial Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Activities will include a photo booth, vendors, prize drawings, food and more.

According to an informational event flier, vendors of all kinds are welcome. Prizes will range from medical supplies to crafts.
“There will be a number of great events," City Administrator Tim Peterson said. "Hopefully, it's a nice day."
Maki explained that the goal of Senior Citizens Day is to recognize and honor older people and their achievements.
"Their valuable contributions to our community create a better place to live," he said. "I hope to see many people attend this fun event."
