Instead of staying home and waiting for the end of the week, Thursday, Nov. 7, some staff and their family members from Churchill and Washington elementary schools in Cloquet and Esko Public Schools were busy setting a record.
The group, along with members of Esko’s Boy Scout Troop 152, combined to put together 3,006 food bags at Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank in Duluth.
The number set a new one-night record for Second Harvest’s BackPack Program, which provides easy-to-access food with a balance of nutrition for kids that may experience hunger when they don’t have access to meals at school.
Each year, Second Harvest distributes more than 30,000 weekend bags of food to children in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.
