Another new apartment complex is under construction to help address the housing shortage in Carlton County.
Willows Edge, 1280 Carlton Road, Carlton, will have 30 apartments priced from $795-$1295 a month, including cable TV. The $3.5 million project will include five studio apartments, seven two-bedroom and 18 one-bedroom units. Six units are set aside for low-income renters. Garages are available for an extra fee.
The project should be completed by March 1.
Owner Paul Vernon said he saw a need for senior housing in the community.
“I’m filling a niche that needs to be filled,” Vernon said.
The apartment complex will be non-smoking; no children or pets will be allowed. There will be a main floor recreation room and an elevator to the second floor of the building.
“There are woods, and it will overlook a pond with geese,” Vernon said. “It’s in a country setting in city limits.”
It is also located within walking distance to Inter-Faith Care Center next door.
“If someone has a spouse in the nursing home, they are close enough to walk,” Vernon said. He added they plan to create a walking path between the two buildings.
A second apartment building on the property is in the beginning stages. The Carlton County Board of Commissioners approved moving a wetland area on the property to another location for the construction of the second building.
Vernon plans to break ground for the second building in 2020.
