Mike Schultz, managing director of Cloquet’s Sappi mill, was promoted to Sappi North America’s vice president of manufacturing effective Sept. 1, according to a news release.

He was a “natural choice” for the position, said former Sappi Vice President of Manufacturing Mike Haws, who is now stepping into Sappi North America’s President and CEO role.

Schultz joined Sappi in 1990. During his time as managing director, he oversaw numerous safety initiatives and a pulp mill conversion project.

Now, he will oversee manufacturing operations in four North America Sappi mills.

Tom Radovich, paper business manager for Sappi North America, will take over the managing director responsibilities until a permanent replacement for Schultz is found.
