The Carlton County Historical Society board of directors hired Rachael Martin as their new executive director.

Outgoing director Anne Dugan will train in Martin next week before taking a new position as curator of the Duluth Art Institute.

Martin comes to her position with over 10 years experience as a museum director. She holds a masters degree in American studies with a focus on the history of the western Great Lakes region.

Martin also teaches local history classes through the community education program in Duluth and the Emeritus College of St. Scholastica and Wisconsin

Indianhead Technical College.

She is looking forward to the opportunity to share her love of history and further the mission of the Historical Society to collect, preserve, and disseminate the history of Carlton County.
