The strawberry season is underway in Carlton County.

Spectrum Farm Strawberries, formerly Finke's Berry Farm, opened for picking Thursday, July 11.

“There were 100 cars lined up. I counted,” owner Steve Schulstrom said. “It took 12 minutes for everyone to get into the parking lot.”

He said his first year with the berries is going well. When he opened at 9 a.m. Monday, July 15, a line of cars went down the road about a half-mile. The temperature climbed into the low 80s by the time the berry farm closed at noon.

Schulstrom estimates the berry field will be open until around Thursday, July 25. He recommends customers call the berry hotline at 218-389-6265 before they drive to the farm, 2332 County Road 4, Carlton.
