A 21-year-old Cloquet man who was reportedly texting while driving caused a head-on vehicle crash near Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, authorities said.

The accident happened about 6:30 p.m. Sunday at 14th Street and John Road. When Cloquet police officers and Cloquet Area Fire District firefighters arrived, they found two vehicles in the southbound lane that had collided, according to Cloquet police. Garrett Langenbrunner reportedly told police that he caused the crash by looking down at his cell phone and texting while driving north on 14th Street. By the time he looked up, he noticed he was in the southbound lane and at that point crashed into a vehicle heading south, according to Cloquet police records.

The driver of the other car, Rhonda Stevenson, 52, was taken by ambulance with complaints of severe leg pain to Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. She was listed in fair condition on Thursday. Her 4-year-old granddaughter also was in the vehicle but was not injured, according to Cloquet police.

Langenbrunner had minor scratches and was not taken by ambulance for treatment. He was cited for inattentive driving, driving without insurance and for texting while driving.
