There isn't a stretch of dirt, gravel, mud, sand, snow, ice, tar or grass that intimidates Josey Weik and his bike. If the surface or obstacle proves too treacherous, the 16-year-old cyclist from Wrenshall simply dismounts and carries his bike to where it's again safe to pump pedals. Such is the mindset of a cyclocross rider. "Josey likes it the colder, the muddier, the better because it gives him a little bit of an advantage when the weather conditions are more on the poor side," said his mother, Sara, who home schools Josey with help from her husband, Matt. Congratulations, Minnesota Vikings. By virtue of your lowly 1-5 record following a blowout loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday night, you now are officially enrolled in the Andrew Luck Sweepstakes. The lucky winner will pick first in next spring's NFL Draft and will either choose the much- ballyhooed quarterback from Stanford or entertain myriad offers from other teams wishing to do so. You know who Andrew Luck is, right? The next sure-fire standout NFL quarterback. The second coming of Peyton Manning or John Elway.
Hello Minnesota Wild players and coaches. Welcome to Duluth. We trust you've enjoyed your first day of practice at the luxurious Amsoil Arena. Maybe it's not the Xcel, but we're pretty darn proud of it. Opened it last fall and we're already raising a national championship banner there this weekend for the Minnesota Duluth men's hockey team. We've ordered some nice October weather for your stay. Monday was nice, and today's high is expected to swell into the 70s. Not bad, considering there usually is a foot of snow on the ground this time of year. Just kidding.
So, how exactly are the Minnesota Vikings spending their halftimes? Are they resting comfortably in custom-made Barcaloungers, catching a few zzz's before the referees fetch them for the second half? Are they busy updating their Facebook statuses to "Coasting toward a victory"? Are they checking their fantasy football stats? Are they doing anything remotely football-related? Whatever they're doing in the locker room clearly isn't working.
