Although members of the Cloquet Area Fire District Board heard no objections to its proposed 19 percent levy increase at the CAFD Truth and Taxation public hearing Dec. 10, they voted Dec. 16 to limit the levy increase to 10 percent. Taxes for the seven-year-old fire district had been flat for the past four years. Although its operations costs are flat again this year, the district wanted to levy an additional $200,000 to start a building fund. At 10 percent, that will mean about $100,000 instead.
