The first cell phones with readily available emoji capabilities were released in the U.S. in 2011. According to Emojipedia (which actually exists) there are currently 1,851 emoji characters, with another 69 set to be released in June of this year.
Just because you can't see someone's toast crumbs doesn't mean they aren't there. I said this column was about toasters. I guess I lied. It's about life and crumbs and what we do with them — because we all have crumbs and splotches on our stainless and scorched spots where we'd rather not be scorched. We all wrestle with real issues and problems and wonder if our efforts are enough or if we should be trying harder.
Emptying the rooms was liberating (and backbreaking). The space felt pure without all the stuff. During the duration of our project, I came to value the empty purity. I didn’t want to refill our new rooms with old clutter and vowed any item returning post-project had to earn its spot.
“The one-act play is a different theater experience for students,” said Stein. “There is a competitive aspect that pushes students and really adds to the performance.”
“We always have a grand turnout for the fall musical,” Hamre said. “And we take pride in the fact that we never turn anyone away. If someone wants to be on stage, we find a way to make it happen. We’re creative that way!”
She was mad — one might even describe it as cataclysmically livid. She focused her ire at the entire family and made us aware of her displeasure with a decidedly cold shoulder and stiff whiskers. We all knew the cause of her chagrin and weren’t about to give in to her demands. She gave us a silent, loathing stare with piercing green eyes while standing expectantly by the back door. Her intense gaze was unrelenting. As were we.
It’s the time of year when the term “F-word” takes on a whole new meaning.
By most accounts, I am as bland as milk toast — except when I enter the kitchen. There, I become a daredevil — a spice wielding, tongs toting, garlic pressing, potato mashing, pepper milling, cheese grating, lemon zesting, pan brandishing Ninja warrior of the room with the stew. (Whew!)
My family has a lot of fun with words and workings of the world.
The inevitable was upon us. Our future included a new garage door and credit card bill.
