Jaden has been legally deaf since 13 months when he had a brush with scarlet fever. It is truly an inspiration to read about young folks who overcome obstacles in life and make the best of the talent they have.
Congratulations to Bruce Johnston from Tamarack who celebrated his retirement with a party at the Fireside on Sunday, Sept. 17. He worked for the Postal Service for over 30 years and really deserves a pat on the back and a great future.
A group of area concerned citizens have distributed a flyer about the upcoming school bond referendum in the mail. Look over the "Did You Know" statements and come to the informational meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at the school for more details. They say: "We need to do what's best for our kids." "Our community needs to make affordable decisions for the future of our school."
It could cost a small fortune to get a student ready for that first day of class and then if you have more kids your budget can really get stretched pretty thin. Let's hope all goes well for this year's students and that they look forward to another school year.
The Area Clothing Depot in Cromwell will hold a special School "Bag Sale" Aug. 24, 26, 29, 31, and Sept. 2, when you get two bags for $5 or one for $3. They are open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thanks for attending the Carlton County Fair held in Barnum. There sure were a lot of visitors who stopped at the Little Red School for lots of the "give-a-ways" thanks to our sponsors who donated the items.
Aug. 21, is the total eclipse of the sun. We will not be able to see the total eclipse, but the sun will be 76 percent covered where we are, unless it's too cloudy, but even if it is cloudy, the sky will darken. The total solar eclipse of June 8, 1918 crossed the United States from Washington state to Florida and was the last time it totally crossed the nation from the Pacific to the Atlantic.
The Cromwell-Wright Public School is exploring a plan for a major facility expansion and upgrade in the near future. An informational meeting will take place at the school at 7 p.m. Sept. 13, plus a newsletter can be obtained at the school at any time if you want more information. The election will take place Nov. 7 to approve this planned expansion.
The annual meeting of the Farmer's Co-op Store in Wright will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, at the Wright Senior Citizens building to conduct all necessary business prescribed by law, including election of directors, changes to the bylaws and reducing the number of directors from seven to five of the cooperative, and any other business that is legally presented will be considered. All qualified members are encouraged to attend. There will be a light lunch and door prizes following the meeting.
Come early, the lines go so fast you don't even have time for your coffee to cool. Be in Cromwell from 9:30-11 a.m. Bring your own boxes and $20 cash if you plan to participate. The food can get heavy, so many folks brought small wagons or coolers on wheels to carry the food.
Ebba and her husband, Ray, established Villa Vista Care Center in 1974 where she served as the administrator. Ebba served on the Cromwell School Board, the Cromwell Credit Union and Cromwell Co-op Board of Directors, was a member of YOT and the Garden Club, and was awarded the Outstanding Senior Citizen of Carlton County in 2006.
