Cloquet junior Anja Maijala skis in the first leg of the section meet Thursday at Giant’s Ridge. Maijala won the skate-style race, and kept her lead in the classic race that afternoon on her way to taking first place at sections. Esko’s Tom Heren competes at Junior Nationals last spring. Heren was the top finisher at the Section 7AA championships Tuesday, taking second place and advancing to the  Minnesota State Alpine Ski Meet Wednesday, also at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.
