Wilderness netminder named CJHL third star of the month for March

The Canadian Junior Hockey League announced that Minnesota Wilderness goaltender Gordy Defiel has been has been named the CJHL third star of the month for March.

Defiel went 5-0 in net for the Wilderness in March posting a stingy 1.40 goals-against average along with a solid .952 save percentage. The Superior International Junior Hockey League's top goaltender award recipient this season led all netminders across the entire CJHL in both goals-against average and save percentage at 1.39 and .945 respectively. He also shared the CJHL lead in shutouts with eight.

Forward John Edwardh of the Alberta Junior Hockey League's Okotoks Oilers was named CJHL first star while Sudbury Nickel Barons forward Darcy Haines of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League earned second star laurels.

Edwardh had 16 points in 12 contests, including 11 goals, six of which were game-winners in AJHL playoff action.

In 13 games last month, Haines was also impressive, registering 22 points on 7 goals and 15 assists recording 17 of those points in post-season play, which led all skaters in the NOJHL. Haines was recently named the NOJHL most valuable player while also earning first team all-star honors.

Honorable mention went to forwards Joey Davies (Humboldt-SJHL-10GP-11G-3A-14PTS) and Corey Kalk (North York-OJHL-9GP-8G-7A-15PTS).
