Carlton course golf pro among State Open qualifiers

Black Bear Golf Course PGA pro Dan Walker is among 156 golfers who qualified for the Minnesota State Open this weekend at Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove, Minn.

Walker shot 75 in a qualifier at the Wilderness at Fortune Bay last week. He is paired with amateurs Todd Gervais and Devin Holmes and tees off at 12:50 p.m. Friday.

Minnesota Section PGA members, apprentices and non-PGA professionals, as well as amateurs who carry a 6 handicap or less are eligible to participate in one of eight qualifying tournaments. Walker, a 1993 graduate of Superior High School, was one of seven to earn his place in the tournament at the qualifier at the Wilderness.

  • Sue Liberty of Northland Country Club and partner Anne Zahn of Windsong Farm shot a 79 Monday to place eighth after the first round of the Minnesota Women's Golf Association Senior Four-Ball Tournament at the Bridges Golf Club in Winona, Minn. Leigh Klasse and Mary Hoisser of Keller Golf Club in St. Paul shot a 69 to take a one-stroke lead heading into today's final round.
