The Esko School Board approved the hire Monday night of Derek Anderson as its new head boys basketball coach. Anderson will begin his off-season duties immediately.

Derek, 29, will be the eighth head coach since 1934. He completed his fourth year as a varsity assistant coach at Esko during the 2017-18 season and has been a part of three state tournament teams.

Anderson enjoyed an impressive collegiate basketball career while competing at The College of St. Scholastica. He was a member of the UMAC Academic All-Conference Team all four years and captain of the team in 2011. T

The Cook native has taught at Winterquist Elementary in Esko since fall 2012 and is set to wed his fiancee, Kristina Lindholm, this summer.

"We're excited to retain Derek's services and believe he's going to have an outstanding head coaching career," said Athletic Director Chad Stoskopf in a press release.
