Wright-Cromwell News: July 20 2017

Our sympathy to the family of Rodney Olesiak, 69, who passed away July 9. He was living in Bruce, Wis., but he was originally from Brookston and the son of Leo and Evelyn Olesiak. His wife Helen (Heiskri) is from Floodwood.

The recent Ruby's Pantry was very well attended and the amount of food given out for each share was really great. The next one is Aug. 10. Come early, the lines go so fast you don't even have time for your coffee to cool. Be in Cromwell from 9:30-11 a.m. Bring your own boxes and $20 cash if you plan to participate. The food can get heavy, so many folks brought small wagons or coolers on wheels to carry the food.

Did you get to take part in any of the Wright Days in Wright events? It seems this year the annual celebration was bigger and better than ever thanks to the dedicated crew that planned and carried out the events. We need to thank Linda Kalli, chair; Bub Stenson, treasurer; Darci Dahl, Faith Nyberg, Jake Kachinske, Minettie's, Rick Gresczyk and myself who served on the committee; plus all the other volunteers who helped with the steak fry, softball and horseshoe tournaments, bean bag toss, parade participants, Cook Shack, pie sale, O-G-N-I-B, rummage sales, kids games and any others that I may have missed. We couldn't have done it without your help. We also proudly served steaks from the Farmer's Co-op Store in Wright. They were delicious as was the whole meal. O-G-N-I-B was a great success, and playing cribbage to lose was also successful. We had about 20 players. The losers who were the winners were John Larsen 494, Tammy LaDean 514, Bob Johnson 515, Rick Gresczyk 531, and Pam Linkert and John Peterson tied with 555. Trisha Giernett won the high crib with 17. With OGNIB and cribbage we took in about $200 for the senior building in Wright. Thanks to those who donated.

The Wrong Days Royalty was crowned by last year's king and queen, Zack Johnson and Savanna Dahl. The Queen is Kieriahna Goodin, daughter of Lucas and Suzy, and King is Adan Sandoval-Luna, son of Angela and Eduardo. Marissa Dahl, daughter of Steven Dahl and Alissa Niemi, was runner-up. These three young people did a great job of selling buttons, which is how they are chosen king or queen. I have the complete list of kings and queens all the way back to the first one in 1966, and will put a copy in the café and the Co-op Store in case you are interested.

Cromwell-Wright Public School is exploring a plan for a major facility expansion and upgrade. Informational meetings will take place at the school at 5 p.m. July 27 and 7 p.m. September 13, plus a newsletter can be obtained at the school. The election will take place Nov. 7 to approve this planned expansion. Surveys were recently sent out for you to give your input on this project.

There will be a special election Tuesday, Aug. 8, conducted by mail for the city of Cromwell to vote on splitting the current liquor license so a new establishment can be built in Cromwell.

It's getting to be that time of year to let the school know of any new families who have or are moving into the area with school age children. Please remember to stop in and get their children registered for the new upcoming school year.
