Agnes Helen Pernat, 99, a lifelong resident of Chisholm, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018, surrounded by family at Heritage Manor Health Center in Chisholm.
She was born April 28, 1918, in Chisholm, Minn., the daughter of Tom and Agnes (Kolodji) Tylla. Agnes was united in marriage to Joseph Pernat on June 28, 1942, at Fort Lewis, Washington.
Agnes worked as a sales associate for JC Penney in Hibbing for many years, retiring in 1988. She enjoyed working with family members at Bimbo's Octagon, always relishing the fellowship of friends and neighbors. She was a strong and vocal advocate for people with disabilities. As voiced by her friend Veda Ponikvar, Agnes was instrumental in the founding of the Range Center in Chisholm. Focus on her family was a defining attribute throughout her life. An impeccable homemaker and outstanding cook, every gathering shaped memories that transcended generations. She loved spending time with her four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She enjoyed the outdoors by camping, cross-country skiing and walking around the lake with friends.
Agnes is survived by her children: Marshall Pernat of Chisholm, Carol (Richard) Dionne of Mont Vernon, NH, Kathy (Ronald) Hanson of Cloquet, Roberta Pernat of Hibbing and daughter-in-law Pat Ferrari; she was survived for just twelve hours by her sister Hattie (Mike) Stimac of Belfair, WA who unexpectedly followed her the next morning; grandchildren: Ryan (Crimsen) Hanson of Cloquet, Aaron Hanson of Carlton, Marsha (Travis) Huddy of Chicago, IL and Jennifer (John) Grygelko of Brainerd; great grandchildren Dylan and Dennen Hanson and Daphne and Dean Huddy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
